Instructional Services

NEIU librarians are available to provide:

  • one-on-one research consultations
  • guided library tours
  • course-related library instruction sessions

Contact your subject librarian to request a session. A two-week advance notice is appreciated and often necessary to accommodate classroom instruction requests.

You are also welcome to visit the first floor Reference Desk or call (773) 442-4410.

Course Reserve Services

Library-owned and personal copies of books and multimedia items may be placed on reserve at the Circulation Desk.

  • Items may have a reserve period of two hours (for use in the Library only), one day, two days, three days, one week, or one month depending on the needs of the course.
  • The Library will not accept burned personal CD, DVD, or VHS copies of commercially available material.
  • The Library is not responsible for loss or damage to personal copies.
  • Paper articles can be scanned to PDF files and returned to faculty. The Library does not accept paper copies of articles for reserve. The Library does not host electronic reserves.
  • Electronic articles available in a Library database will be provided as links to faculty to be shared on D2L.
  • Any item not owned by the Library or faculty member will not be placed on reserve.
  • We reserve the right to determine whether or not items are acceptable for reserve.
  • Please be aware that course reserve requests may take longer to process during busy times of the semester.

To put an item on course reserve, please complete the Course Reserves Request Form.

The library will purchase textbooks or course readings by faculty request to be placed on reserve at the Circulation Desk.

  • Library purchased reserve textbooks will have a reserve period of two hours (for use in the Library only).
  • The Library may not be able to purchase every textbook requested.
  • A new copy will not be purchased if the item is in the existing library collection or is already available on reserve as a personal copy.
