Message from the Board of Trustees

April 18, 2024

Dear members of the Northeastern Illinois University community,

The Presidential Search Committee has been diligent, thoughtful and collegial in working to identify the best candidate to serve as the eighth president of Northeastern Illinois University. I am pleased to report that after careful deliberation of the semifinalist candidates, the Presidential Search Committee conducted a subsequent round of semifinalist interviews on April 15, 16, and 17. On April 17, the committee deliberated and selected four candidates to advance to the next phase of the process: the in-person campus interviews and campus tour.

Later this month and into early May, key NEIU constituents will be invited to interview the finalists, including students, faculty, staff, the Foundation Board, alumni, community and business partners, public officials, unions, and the Board of Trustees. The University community will be encouraged to participate in the process and provide feedback on each candidate presented to the NEIU Presidential Search Subcommittee for Planning Campus Interviews.

Please join me in thanking the following Subcommittee Co-Chairs for their leadership as we look to plan next steps in the coming days:

  • Patricia Aguado, Associate Professor of Social Work in the College of Arts and Sciences, representing the Council on the Status of Latinxs
  • Sarah Fabian, Associate Professor of Communication, Media and Theatre in the College of Arts and Sciences, representing Faculty Senate
  • Christopher Merchant, Associate Professor of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, representing College of Arts and Sciences

While we are still in this process, I’d also like to take a moment and encourage you to join me in extending a sincere thanks to each member of the NEIU Presidential Search Committee for their thoughtful and diligent leadership. We deeply value the Search Committee's dedication and the University community's contributions throughout this process.

The Committee will keep the University informed of further developments in the presidential search process shortly.

Sincerely,

Betty Fleurimond, Trustee
Presidential Search Committee Chair
