The NEIU Community is Planning for a Full Return this Fall
Northeastern Illinois University is expecting a full reopening of all of its locations on Aug. 23. We continue to stay committed to the health and safety of our faculty, staff and students. With this goal in mind, programs and events targeted to the community, including alumni and donor events, will return as hybrid programs or will remain virtual for the fall semester.
When you return, you will also see that Northeastern has implemented a layered approach of engineering, administrative controls and signage to protect the NEIU community from COVID-19 and to prevent the spread of the virus. The Office of Alumni Relations will return to its normal hours of operation: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
While you visit campus, please follow the COVID-19 guideline and restrictions still in place at all campus locations for your health and safety and those of our students, faculty and staff.
Illinois and the City of Chicago are currently in Phase 5 of reopening. Although most mandatory COVID-19 regulations have been lifted at most businesses, Phase 5 recommendations continue to support social distancing, hygiene measures and face coverings for unvaccinated and immunocompromised individuals. Northeastern Illinois University continues to take a conservative approach to protect the health and safety of everyone returning to campus, which includes requiring face masks indoors.
FACE COVERINGS: Face coverings are still required in all indoor common areas and in all classrooms, regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings are no longer required in outdoor areas, so long as social distancing can be appropriately maintained.
This year has been a challenge, but the alumni community played a vital role in some of the milestone accomplishments. The NEIU Alumni Association was able to pivot its programming and outreach virtually and alumni and friends participated in virtual signature events, virtual graduations, workshops and other activities.
The university was able to refocus its fundraising efforts to new initiatives including the NEIU Student Emergency Fund, which directly affects students in financial need during the pandemic, and the George Floyd Scholarship, a social justice initiative focused on supporting underrepresented students.
We want to thank alumni for their ongoing dedication to Northeastern Illinois University and look forward to welcoming alumni back to campus this fall.
