Federal Grants

Federal Pell Grant (Undergraduate)

The Federal Pell Grant eligibility is determined by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students with an Expected Family Contribution or EFC of 5,000 or less are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. Students must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen and accepted into a degree seeking program. The amount of Federal Pell Grant funds a student may receive over his or her lifetime is limited by a new federal law to be the equivalent of six years of Pell Grant funding. Since the maximum amount of Pell Grant funding a student can receive each year is equal to 100%, the six-year equivalent is 600% (or six years, full-time).

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (Undergraduate)

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a need-based grant for students accepted into a degree seeking program and who have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. Generally students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and who complete their FAFSA by the University priority file date are eligible for the FSEOG. Half-time enrollment required.

Federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (Undergraduate and Graduate)

The Federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (FTEACH) Grant eligibility is limited to NEIU students accepted into the College of Education who have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA. Students must have a declared major in the College of Education in a ‘high need’ subject area and have a signed Agreement to Serve with the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois Monetary Award Program (Undergraduate)

The Illinois Monetary Award Program or IMAP Grant eligibility is determined by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Illinois Alternative Application (RISE Act). Students must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen and be accepted into a degree seeking program. Eligibility is limited to students who are residents of Illinois, with an Student Aid Index (SAI) of 9,000 or less and expires after ten (10) full-time semesters of use.

early childhood access consortium for equity or ecace (Undergraduate)

The ECACE scholarship eligibility is determined by completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and an online application available at the ISAC Student Portal. Priority consideration is mid-August of the award year student plans to enroll. Recipients of the scholarship are expected to continue or return to teaching or direct services n the early childhood care nd education field in Illinois after completing their program of study.

golden apple (GA) SCHOLARS OF ILLINOIS PROGRAM

The Golden Apple Scholar Program eligibility is determined by an online application administered by the Golden Apple Foundation. Priority consideration is April 1 of the award year preceding student plans for enrollment.

Minority teachers of illinois (MTI)

The MTI scholarship eligibility is determined by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or State Alternative Application (RISE Act) and an online application available at the ISAC Student Portal. Priority consideration is March 31 of the preceding award year student plans to enroll. Recipients of the scholarship are expected to continue or return to teaching or direct services n the early childhood care and education field in Illinois after completing their program of study.

illinois graduate and retain our workforce (igrow) tech scholarship program - undergraduate only

The iGROW Tech scholarship eligibility is determined by the completion an online application available at the ISAC Student Portal. The program provides scholarship assistance to Illinois students pursuing IT and related careers such as computer science, computer information systems security or information assurance. Recipients must begin employment in Illinois directly related to the field of study qualifying them for the scholarship within one year following completion of their program of study.

illinois special education teacher tuition waiver (settw)

The SETTW eligibility is determined by completion of an online application available at the ISAC Student Portal which includes the Teaching Agreement/Master Promissory Note. Priority consideration is March 1 of the preceding award year student plans to enroll. Recipients must be enrolled in a program of special education within 10 days after the beginning of the term for which the waiver was initially awarded. Recipients must remain in attendance at the college on a continuous basis for up to four years (unless granted an approved leave of absence, in which case the course of study must be completed within six years). Recipients cannot receive funds from the Minority Teachers of Illinois (MTI) Scholarship Program or the Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Program during the same term(s).

Institutional Grants

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Eagle Performance Award (Undergraduate)

The NEIU Eagle Performance Award eligibility is determined by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Eligibility limited to those students who have a cumulative academic grade point average of 3.0, an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 18,000 or less and an Illinois Monetary Award Program or IMAP Grant suspense status.
