MISSION AND VISION

At the Department of Counselor Education's Counseling and Wellness Clinic, our mission is to provide a safe, compassionate, and culturally sensitive environment where graduate students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Couple and Family Counseling programs can advance their skills and knowledge to become ethical, effective, and empathetic counselors.

We are committed to fostering excellence in counseling practice by offering advanced training opportunities for our students during their clinical skills counseling courses, practicum, and internship experiences. Under the expert guidance and supervision of licensed professionals, our students engage with clients to address a wide range of mental health and relational challenges.

Our core values encompass:

  • Experiential Learning: We believe in the power of hands-on learning. Our students gain practical experience that equips them with the competence and confidence needed to excel in the field of counseling.

  • Client-Centered Care: We prioritize the well-being of our clients. Our approach is centered on their unique needs and preferences, promoting a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship.

  • Diversity and Inclusion: We embrace diversity in all its forms. Our commitment to inclusivity ensures that clients from diverse backgrounds receive culturally competent and affirming counseling services.

  • Ethical Practice: We uphold the highest ethical standards in counseling. Our students are guided by a strong ethical framework, ensuring the well-being, privacy, and confidentiality of our clients.

  • Professional Growth: We support our students' professional development. Our clinic serves as a hub for continuous learning, research, and advancement in the field of counseling.

As we strive for excellence in counselor education and practice, we envision a future where our graduates become leaders in the field of counseling, making a positive impact counseling individuals, couples, and families across diverse communities. Together, we aim to create a healthier, better connected, and more resilient community through counseling, one client at a time. This mission statement reflects our dedication to the development of skilled and compassionate counselors who contribute to the well-being of individuals, couples, and families in our community and beyond.
