The Community Music Program (CMP) at Northeastern Illinois University offers weekly private lessons in piano, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, guitar and percussion. The CMP instructors include Junior Faculty (NEIU undergraduate and graduate students), Senior Faculty (professionals) and Artist Faculty (NEIU full-time faculty artists or special guest artists). Lessons are offered in 30-, 45-, and 60-minute increments and students sign up for the entire session offered. (Lessons with Artist Faculty may also be taken on a one-by-one basis.) Group lessons are available for some instruments (after stay at home orders are lifted).
Please call us if you do not see an offering that meets your needs. Piano instructors will start students at age 5 and up. Guitar students age 6 and older can start in group lessons and in private lessons at age 12. Call or email with any questions about age requirements.
Spring 2022 Lessons
SESSION JAN. 15-MAY 7
THE END OF TERM Recital IS ON MAY 7
The NEIU Community Music Program will be offering in-person lessons. All students, guests and teachers will be masked indoors regardless of vaccination status. Students may choose 100% remote, combination of remote and in-person, or fully in-person. Please have a conversation with your teacher about your preference.
Be sure to take advantage of the hand sanitizing stations or wash your hands before coming to lessons. If you are sick, please stay home. If you are symptomatic and would like to take a lesson, please contact your teacher in advance to make arrangements for a remote lesson. If you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 prior to coming for a lesson, please stay home and contact your teacher in advance to make arrangements for a remote lesson.
We are optimistic that we will be able to continue with these teaching options with proper precautions taken by all in the program. Let's all work together to keep each other safe and healthy this year!
