Your Donations Help Our Students
Northeastern’s Power Closet is supported by donations from faculty, staff, alumni and students.
What can be donated?
- Clean or dry-cleaned business attire that is on a hanger or neatly folded
- New or gently used men’s business attire:
- Suits and separates (jackets, blazers, and pants) in neutral colors (black, navy, gray, khaki)
- Collared shirts in light and non-bold colors, solid or small patterns
- Solid color ties or ties with small patterns
- Black or brown simple belts
- Black or brown lace-up shoes
- New dress socks in neutral colors (black, navy, gray, tan)
- Briefcases
- New or gently used women’s business attire:
- Suits and separates (jackets, blazers, pants, skirts and dresses) in neutral colors (black, navy, gray, khaki)
- Collared shirts and blouses in solid colors or with small patterns
- Black or brown simple belts
- Black, brown, or nude closed toe shoes (flat or less than three-inch heel)
- New dress socks in neutral colors (black, navy, gray, tan)
- New sheer or opaque hosiery (tights, pantyhose, nylons) in black or nude
- Fashion scarves
- Handbags in neutral colors
- Generally, items that are no more than five (5) years old and are in good condition
Our most needed items are:
- Women’s professional accessories such as jewelry, fashion scarves, and purses
- Men's professional shoe sizes (8 1/2-10)
- Women's professional shoe sizes (7-10)
- Women's and men's vests, sizes large and up (in neutral colors)
What cannot be donated?
- Ripped or stained clothing
- Children’s clothing
- Bright colored clothing
- Clothing with excessive patterns
- Undergarments
- Hats
- Outerwear/coats
- Gloves
- Winter scarves
- Jeans
- Joggers or sweatpants
- T-shirts
- Gym shoes
Where and when are donations accepted?
Power Closet item donations are accepted on Tuesdays from 2-5 p.m and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. on the Main Campus, Room E 036.
Donations are also accepted by appointment by contacting power-closet@neiu.edu.
