The Emergency Fund provides limited emergency financial support to currently enrolled Northeastern El Centro and Proyecto Pa’Lante students who are unable to meet essential expenses due to a temporary or unexpected hardship. Without these types of scholarships, students would not be able to achieve their dreams of achieving their education. Your generous contribution can make a significant impact on a student’s future.

Throughout the years, we have awarded more than 20 emergency scholarships, which proved to be of help especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hear about the impact of the Emergency Scholarship:

"The Proyecto Pa’Lante Emergency Scholarship allowed me to develop my full potential. In May of 2023, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Justice Studies and two minors in Sociology, and Political Science. In my last semester, I successfully won an elected office, which hopes to reimagine public safety in our neighborhoods by using new restorative justice practices and addressing root cause issues. Thank you for all of the beautiful moments, grace, love, persistence, and compassion you gave me. Dr. Rivera, the Director and advisors like Liz, Evelyn, and Suyapa, helped build the person I have become today. This scholarship and NEIU will remain with me in all of my future endeavors. This scholarship means the world to me, as it is a continuous reminder of the community that believes in you, but it also causes one to remember that we are worthy to succeed."

-Saul Manon-Arellano ‘23, B.A. Justice Studies, Minors in Sociology and Political Science

"The ELC Emergency Fund Scholarship alleviated my financial struggles during my undergraduate experience, as the funds were used to cover additional expenses such as books, transportation, and online resources for assignments. With the funds provided by the El Centro Emergency Fund Scholarship, I was able to graduate debt-free. I am incredibly appreciative of all the opportunities and assistance given to me at the time. I am certain that other students can benefit from the scholarship just as much!

-Karina Barriga, '22 Early Childhood Education, minor in Bilingual Education,TESOL Endorsement (K-2)
