NOTE: Due to weather conditions, the Feb. 9 concert has been canceled.

Septura Brass Septet will perform Feb. 9 as part of Northeastern Illinois University’s Jewel Box Series. The performance, which is part of the 2018 Chicago Brass Festival, will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on the Main Campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.

Septura brings together London’s leading players to redefine brass chamber music through the uniquely expressive sound of the brass septet. By creating a canon of transcriptions, arrangements and new commissions for this brand new classical configuration, Septura aims to recast the brass ensemble as a serious artistic medium.

Currently Ensemble in Residence at the Royal Academy of Music, London, the group is recording a series of 10 discs for Naxos Records, each focused on a particular period, genre and set of composers, creating a “counter-factual history” of brass chamber music.

Septura Brass Septet’s performance is a part of the Jewel Box Series, an eight-concert professional performing arts series presented by Northeastern’s Office of Cultural Events. Tickets are $25, $17.50 and $10 and can be purchased online or by calling (773) 442-4636. Parking permits are required.

The Brass Festival continues on Feb. 10 with classes, rehearsals and ultimately a concert with Northeastern faculty and friends.
