Jazlyn Solis with two children

Jazlyn Solis

The culture at NEIU is more understanding than other colleges. They really want you to succeed and they do everything they can to make sure you do.

NEIU is like a family. I know how that sounds, but that is genuinely how it feels. I am a mother of 2, so being somewhere that understands and works with you when you have so many responsibilities and hurdles to overcome makes the weight on your shoulders feel a bit lighter.

Here, I feel more included and understood.

I have a support system that I did not have before. I’ve been able to connect with people and establish lifelong friendships and I also joined TRIO, a very supportive community that gives you opportunities to take advantage of.

I feel like NEIU took me out of my shell and helped me open myself to new opportunities and people. I would have never thought I would put myself out there to join programs like SGA and  apply for fellowships like the Latino Policy Forum LEAD Fellowship which I was accepted for. NEIU’s faculty has helped me build confidence in myself and my capabilities. I am forever grateful to each and every one of them!

College is a big step toward your future, so if you want to have your best shot and get the best opportunity possible, NEIU is the way to go.
