Combatiendo el Cáncer en nuestra comunidad. Latinx fighting Cancer Panel Discussion and Reception
6-9 P.M. April 20, 2022
ChicagoCHEC and the NEIU Center of Health will be hosting an in-person panel discussion and reception in Alumni Hall on the NEIU main campus with the Medical Organization for Latino Advancement (MOLA) and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society titled “Combatiendo el Cáncer en nuestra comunidad. Latinx fighting Cancer.” A reception with food and refreshments will follow the panel discussion.
Students are especially encouraged to attend.
The panel features speakers: Paul Rubinstein, MD, Celeste G. Cruz, MD, and Jonathan Moreira, MD and will focus on Novel Therapeutics in Cancer Care. Technology, Innovation, and Health in cancer care for the Latinx patient with an emphasis on the Latest Advances in Breast and Hematological (blood) Cancers technology.

2022 CHEC Fellows program
program application now open - Deadline Extended to March 21, 2022
The ChicagoCHEC Research Fellows program is a comprehensive learning experience about health disparities in cancer for undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students at Northeastern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, the City Colleges of Chicago, and other community and junior colleges in the Chicago metropolitan area who are planning to apply to graduate or medical school. This program is focused on the development of academic, technical, and professional skills in preparation for careers in social, behavioral, and biomedical research and in healthcare.
ChicagoCHEC Research Fellows will spend the summer in seminars and research rotations learning from leading researchers. A stipend is given for the entirety of the eight-week program.
Fellowship Application Timeline
- October 2021: Application launch
- March 2022: Application deadline
- March-April 2022: Selection of finalists
- April 2022: Interviews of finalists
- April-May 2022: Selection and notification
- June 13, 2022: Start of summer program
- Aug. 5, 2022: End of summer program

5th Annual Women in Science Conference
March 10-11, 24-25, 31 and April 1, 2022
Sign up for for the 5th annual Women in Science Conference, Northeastern Illinois University's annual conference celebrating women in the sciences. This year, the conference focuses on women in the field of Biological Anthropology. The conference will include keynote speakers and student sessions that discuss career opportunities, getting into STEM fields, doing field work, etc.
These events are free, but sign-up is required in order to receive location and/or the Zoom meeting details.
