Application Deadline Extended to March 15, 2021
The ChicagoCHEC Research Fellows program is a comprehensive learning experience about health disparities in cancer for undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students at Northeastern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, the City Colleges of Chicago, and other community and junior colleges in the Chicago metropolitan area who are planning to apply to graduate or medical school. This program is focused on the development of academic, technical, and professional skills in preparation for careers in social, behavioral, and biomedical research and in healthcare.
ChicagoCHEC Research Fellows will spend the summer in seminars and research rotations learning from leading researchers. A stipend is given for the entirety of the eight-week program.
Fellowship Application Timeline
- November 2020: Application launch
- March 15, 2021: Application deadline
- March-April 2021: Selection of finalists
- April 2021: Interviews of finalists
- April-May 2021: Selection and notification
- June 14, 2021: Start of summer program
- Aug. 6, 2021: End of summer program

Register Now for the 4th Annual Women in Science Virtual Zoom Conference March 12 and 26, 2021
Dedicated to honoring women in Biology, the 4th Annual Women in Science Conference features a Women in STEM Career Panel for students from 9-11 a.m. on March 12. On March 26, Dr. Nykia Walker will present a keynote address from 9-10 a.m. followed by a free screening and discussion of the movie “Picture a Scientist” from 10 a.m.-noon. Additionally, there will be a Speed Mentoring Session with senior science faculty and administrators for all interested trainees and mentees from noon-1 p.m.
These events are free, but registration is required in order to receive the Zoom meeting details. Registered participants will also receive a link to view the movie that lasts up to 72 hours after the initial screening.
