Actors rehearse "In the Blood" at Stage Center Theatre

Wednesday, February 17, 2016

Northeastern Illinois University’s Stage Center Theatre will launch Suzan-Lori Parks’ “In the Blood” on Feb. 25.

Hester, a homeless mother of five, struggles to raise her children and escape the harsh world of poverty. While Hester’s children fill her life with joy, rendered in lovingly comic moments, the adults she encounters ensure the play’s tragic end. Parks’ haunting riff on “The Scarlet Letter” won the Pulitzer Prize in 2000.

Directed by Angie Sweigart-Gallagher, “In the Blood” is produced in special arrangement with the Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

“In the Blood” runs Feb. 25, 26, 27, and March 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. and March 5 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at The Stage Center Theatre, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. Tickets are $10, $8, and $6 and are free to Northeastern students, faculty and staff with a Northeastern ID. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling (773) 442-4630.
