Northeastern Illinois University will honor our nation’s veterans at a ceremony on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

President Sharon Hahs will address guests at the 10:30 a.m. opening ceremony, which will be followed at 11 a.m. by a moment of silence, the hanging of dog tags and laying of a wreath in the Peace Garden.

This event is open to the public. Attendees are offered complimentary parking on the fourth floor of the Parking Facility from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Nov. 8, Northeastern’s Student Veterans Club is participating in Hike for the Homeless. Open to the public, this event supports the homeless by providing them with donated clothing, food and toiletries.

Hikers will rally at 8 a.m. on the University Commons at Northeastern’s main campus, and then depart at 10 a.m. with backpacks full of donated items. From there they take public transportation to Chicago’s Loop and continue the hike, distributing the donations to those in need.

The hike culminates at J. Patrick’s Irish Pub, 1367 W. Erie St., which will offer food and drink specials and discounts to the hikers.
