Northeastern Illinois University has nominated Emma Battaglia as the Northeastern 2014 Lincoln Academy Student Laureate.

Battaglia, a senior majoring in Economics and Elementary Education, is vice president of the Northeastern chapter of the Omicron Delta Epsilon honor society and a member of the Kappa Delta Pi honor society. She also has made the Dean’s List every semester at Northeastern.

The student laureates will be honored at a Nov. 1 reception in the Hall of Representatives in Springfield at the Old State Capitol followed by a luncheon in the governor's executive mansion. 

Battaglia, a graduate of Northside College Prep High School in Chicago, works as a tutor at Learning Support Center and has been a research assistant studying smoking. Outside of Northeastern, she volunteers with the Alliance for the Great Lakes and coaches swimming.

The Order of Lincoln was established in 1964 by proclamation of Illinois Gov. Otto Kerner to honor individuals whose contributions to the betterment of humanity have been accomplished in Illinois or whose achievements have brought honor to the state.
