Northeastern Illinois University will launch its participation in the Economic Inequality Initiative on April 6. As reported in October of 2014, Northeastern was selected by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities to participate, and will join 19 other campuses in the initiative.

The Economic Inequality Initiative is the first joint American Democracy Project and Democracy Commitment national civic action series. The College of Arts and Sciences and the Division of Student Affairs invite the University community to join the national discussion on economic inequality. A kickoff event will take place in Alumni Hall on April 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Highlights of the event will include an update on plans for the Northeastern food pantry, student speakers who are facing economic challenges, and previews of video documentaries developed by students exploring economic inequality in Albany Park. Additionally, the Northeastern Programming Board will screen the 2013 documentary “Inequality for All” at 4:15 and 7 p.m.

All those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the new Northeastern food pantry.

A modest lunch will be provided for those participating. Please RSVP to Mark Sherkow at m-sherkow@neiu.edu by 4 p.m. Thursday, April 2.
