Georgiann Davis
Associate Professor of Sociology
I am an intersex scholar-activist whose research, teaching, and activism are at the intersection of medical violence and feminist theories. After earning my bachelor’s degree in sociology at NEIU in 2004, I went on to the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee where I received my master’s degree in sociology followed by the University of Illinois at Chicago for my PhD in sociology. Having studied and taught at various universities across the county, my love for NEIU has only grown. When I was a first-generation college student at NEIU, I didn’t quite realize how incredibly unique NEIU Sociology was in terms of the faculty to student ratio, mentorship opportunities, and most importantly, the vibrant student community. I have no doubt that the NEIU Sociology community played an important role in my evolution as an unapologetic intersex scholar-activist.
