"The career development advisors helped me gain confidence in my interviewing skills. I felt incredibly prepared to interview for internships that will hopefully land me a job after graduation. Interviewing does not seem so scary anymore."

"Mock interviews and preparing for potential answers to questions was the most helpful. Thinking of what to say ahead of time and not scrambling to think of answers helped my confidence."

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"It is on your tuition. You're paying for it. Use the services!!!! I can't recommend it enough!"

How did the career development services at NEIU contribute to your career success? 

"The resume support I received from NEIU's Career Development Center was key to landing my job at a marketing company. The resume they helped me create made a real impact. My hiring manager even said, "I do not even need to interview you, I feel like I know you enough just from your resume." The guidance I received gave me the tools and confidence to stand out professionally."

Which specific services or resources from the career development department did you find most beneficial?

"The resume review was by far the most helpful for me. One of the career liaisons told me, “Your resume is selling you short.” That really stuck with me. She helped me rework the format and language so it better reflected my experience and strengths. It made a huge difference.

I also looked into some of their job search resources, which motivated me to attend a job fair and actually hand out printed copies of my resume to employers. That was something I probably would not have done otherwise, but it helped me feel more prepared and confident.

Even just those two things, fixing up my resume and getting a little push to put myself out there, made Career Development really worth it for me."

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"My biggest advice is don’t wait, start using NEIU’s Career Development Services early, even if you’re not sure what career path you want yet especially as a freshman."

How did the career development services at NEIU contribute to your career success? 

"The NEIU career development services helped me with every step of the way to my new teaching position. The advisor helped me develop my resume, my cover letter, and mock interviews. They also continuously gave me feedback and revision on both my cover letter and my resume."

"Personally I was most grateful for the assistance with my resume and my cover letter. I also found very helpful to have mock interviews."

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"My advice would be to use every resource you have at your disposal, even if you think your questions are insignificant don't be afraid to find someone who can answer them. I would also advice to make appointments sooner rather than later as you need time for re-writes."

"Career development has helped me build a strong resume and cover letter, both essential for medical school. With their support, I improved my resume, which helped me secure my current jobs—something I struggled with before. They also guided me in job searching and connected me with career fairs, where I landed one of my positions. Their assistance has made a significant impact on my professional growth."

"I highly recommend taking advantage of career development services. These resources can help you build a strong resume and cover letter, improve your job search skills, and connect with potential employers through career fairs and networking events. Start early, attend workshops, and seek guidance on internships or job opportunities. Career development services can make a significant difference in your professional success!"

How did the career development services at NEIU contribute to your career success? 

"Working with  the career development services helped me to sculpt my resume in a way that opened up opportunities for me to partake in student research. They met with me in person twice and still went above and beyond responding to multiple e-mails and even joining me for a zoom call to make sure that I represented both myself and my experience in the most professional way possible."

"The career advisors helped me with job search assistance on handshake. Both of these services were extremely beneficial, inspiring, and provided me with momentum to get me where I am today."

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"There is so much in your life that can change with just one visit, one conversation, one email, or one zoom call. The career development services offer resources that every single college student should take advantage of. Going to class and doing well in our studies is simply not enough if we want to aim high. Career development services will show you just how high you can aim and reveal your true potential."

How did the career development services at NEIU contribute to your career success? 

"Career Development Services assisted me in preparing for the 2024 ALPFA Convention. I originally had a power closet appointment and walked away with business cards as well. The career advisor helped me with getting the attire I needed, and made sure that before I left, I had the business cards in my hands. These proved to be a game changer as a lot of recruiters were impressed and it showed that I was well prepared. "

"Definitely the power closet and business card as they helped to add the finishing touches to set me apart from other candidates."

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"I would say to definitely give it a try! I had heard about the power closet in the past, but this was the first time I had actually went and I was impressed. I got a bunch of professional's attire that I can use in the future both here at NEIU and at my internship."

How did the career development services at NEIU contribute to your career success? 

"I first got to know the Career Development department as an Office Specialist, where I saw firsthand how dedicated and supportive the staff and manager are in helping students succeed. Using those same services for my own career like resume reviews, job search tips, and networking guidance helped me strengthen my professional skills and feel more confident when applying for jobs."

"Resume review and LinkedIn profile feedback were the most helpful for me. They showed me how to present my skills clearly and professionally, and I also benefited from their job search tips and interview preparation advice."

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"Don’t wait until graduation, start early. The more time you give yourself to improve your resume, practice interviews, and explore job opportunities, the more confident and prepared you’ll be."

How did the career development services at NEIU contribute to your career success? 

"When it came to my old resume, there was an issue with how I was communicating my skillsets. From the moment Career Liaison looked at my resume, they informed me I had a lot of management experience. I never realized I had before, so in many ways, it also gave me the confidence to speak to the skills I have earned over the years."

Which specific services or resources from the career development department did you find most beneficial?

"Resume Review - This changed so much for me.

I received a phone call from an employer I sent the old resume to, and they wished to have a phone interview. I did the interview and they said "We have your resume but just need to go find it in the emails".

I took that opportunity to submit the new resume, fresh in their inbox and also newly updated. I landed an in person interview, then a second one less than 24 hours later. My final interview was with the department manager.... he was is wonderful. But huge thing to note - he is also an Alumni of NEIU! He offered me the job 2 hours after my interview."

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"Please take the time to think about your goals and intentions with what you would like for your future. Then I implore you, to meet with someone to just speak with or go over those questions and information. You might only need to hear a single sentence, it might only take 20 minutes to fully understand your new plan in place, but just taking that little bit of time - changed my entire career path and opened opportunities I did not expect."

How did the career development services at NEIU contribute to your career success? 

"The career development services at NEIU helped me out a lot with creating a powerful and informative resume, cover letters, computer science job applications and getting in contact with important  technology companies in Chicago. I also enjoyed being a part of the College of Business and Technology Workshop Series. They also contributed well to my success with giving me great guidance on computer science interview practice using the STAR method."

"The specific services/resources from the career development department that I found most beneficial were the career and internship fair, resume review and job search assistance. Handshake and Linkedin are very useful platforms because they provide great tools for networking, job searching, and career growth. Networking is a very important resource that I used as a resource with career development because it prepared me well for a wonderful experience at the NEIU career and internship fair where I built connections with the career development crew and many different computer science companies in the beginning of my job search process. Networking is great because it has helped me build confidence & communication skills which has helped me feel more comfortable with introducing myself well and with making strong impressions to different computer science and technology companies. "

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"Career planning allows you to identify your core competencies, personal strengths, and interests, and then discover professional opportunities you're likely to enjoy. It includes self-evaluation, and it can be performed at any stage of your career. This helps a lot because in a world where standing out is key, your personal growth is the beacon that guides your career journey."

How did the career development services at NEIU contribute to your career success? 

"The career advisor was a tremendous help and a great shoulder to lean on during my career search. During the federal hiring freeze, they helped me keep my spirits up by encouraging and helping me look for jobs on the state/county level."

"Resume reviewing and tailoring my resume for individual applications was very helpful!"

What advice would you offer to current or future students who are considering utilizing career development services at NEIU?

"Even if it makes you nervous, sign up for an appointment! I have always left with more confidence and direction with each session I've attended."
