NEIU Health Fair

What is the Health Fair?

Each semester, Student Health Services hosts the Health Fair to promote wellness and connect the NEIU community with valuable health resources. The event features a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to, nutrition, fitness, mental health, preventive care, and overall well-being. Participating organizations share information about their programs and services while providing educational materials and giveaways, such as informational flyers, tote bags, reusable cups, hand sanitizer, business cards, and other wellness-related items.

How to Participate

This event is open to the NEIU community. Please visit the check in table to get signed in and then feel free to visit any of the tables at the fair!

Health Fair in the News!

"SHS’s commitment to eliminating barriers to student wellness is clear. Though the NEIU health fairs occur only twice per academic year, their services are available year-round. For any student navigating college life and health challenges, remember that resources are available on and near campus."

NEIU Independent Feature: We were featured in an article by NEIU Independent highlighting the impact of our Health Fair and the importance of making wellness resources accessible to students. The article captured student perspectives on the stigma surrounding mental health, with one student noting that “a lot of people have suicidal thoughts and it’s a common thing,” while other voices emphasized the value of creating spaces where students can learn about health, ask questions, and connect with support. The feature also highlighted our commitment to reminding students that help is available and accessible, while bringing together community partners and resources that address the diverse health and wellness needs of the NEIU community.

Previous Health Fair Activities & Workshops

  • NARCAN Trainings: We partner with community health organizations, such as Tapestry 360 Health, to teach attendees how to recognize an opioid overdose and respond with lifesaving tools and information
  • Health Insurance Enrollment: We connect attendees with certified health insurance counselors from organizations, such as Hamdard Health Alliance, to learn about available coverage options and receive guidance on finding a plan that fits their health insurance needs and budget.
  • Flu Vaccinations: We provide flu vaccination opportunities to provide attendees a convenient way to protect their health and stay up to date with seasonal prevention.
  • HIV Testing: We provides HIV testing and sexual health education at health fairs in partnership with organizations such as the Puerto Rican Cultural Center’s Lisa Isadora-Cruz Trans Empowerment Center and Cook County Health, offering attendees convenient access to free HIV testing, culturally affirming information, and resources that support sexual health and prevention.
  • Domestic Violence & Family Support: We partner with organizations such as Sarah’s Inn and YWCA Metropolitan Chicago to connect attendees with resources that support individuals and families affected by domestic and gender-based violence. These organizations provide services including safety support, counseling, childcare resources, job skills training, and other community-based resources designed to promote safety, stability, and well-being.
  • Food & Nutrition Education: We partner with organizations such as The Friendship Center (TFC) to provide food and nutrition education that helps attendees make informed, practical choices about healthy eating and overall well-being. Through these partnerships, participants can learn about nutritious food options, food access, and community resources that support individuals and families experiencing or at risk of food insecurity.
  • Fitness Classes: We coordinate with the Physical Education Complex to encourage attendees to stay active through a variety of fitness classes. From strength training, stretching, yoga, and martial arts, we try to create opportunities for attendees to try something new and make wellness part of their day.
  • Dance Classes: We offer dance classes, such as Zumba and Hip-Hop, to give attendees a fun way to get active through music and movement. The upbeat classes offer an engaging break from the day while promoting physical wellness.
