Northeastern Illinois University President Sharon Hahs has invited the university community to participate in the annual University Day on Thursday, Oct. 9. The topic for this year’s discussion is “Refreshing our Strategic Plan.”

The goal of the refresh is to keep the mission, vision, values and goals of the 2008 strategic plan, and to review and update the action steps to guide the University for the next several years.

This is the first stage of Northeastern’s refresh, and the University Day conversations will focus on SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) exercises and a review of Northeastern’s strategic goals.

University Day will be held from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. in Alumni Hall on the main campus. Here is the schedule:

8:30-9 a.m. Coffee

9-9:10 a.m. Introduction and overview of University Day

9:10-10:10 a.m. Breakout sessions for SWOT exercise/discussion of results

10:10-10:25 a.m. Coffee break

10:25-11 a.m. Review of strategic planning goals

11-11:30 a.m. Summary

After University Day, a steering committee will develop a revised draft of the strategic plan by early November. Final reviews on the main campus, Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies and El Centro locations are expected in mid-November, and the completed plan should be ready for implementation in early December.

Those not able to attend University Day are encouraged to email comments and ideas to acadaff@neiu.edu. The outcome of University Day will be posted on Northeastern’s website.
