Northeastern Illinois University’s Office of Student Leadership Development has organized the University’s first Greek Appreciation Week. Beginning Jan. 19, the week’s events honor and thank the dedicated members of the University’s Greek organizations.

“The current Greeks do a bit of everything—donate, volunteer, mentor, maintain good grades,” said Gabriela Mata, student intern in the Office of Student Leadership Development and member of sorority Omega Beta Phi. “They are an example to the rest of the student body. We really wanted to create a weeklong event to recognize and reward them for all their hard work and philanthropy.”

Greek Appreciation Week events will consist of career-focused activities, from résumé building and professional headshots to health and nutrition activities, which include Crossfit and Zumba classes. These events will allow different Greek organizations to intermingle and non-members to get a glimpse into what Greek life is all about.

“It will be fun to connect and network with other fraternities and sororities,” said Brenda Bedolla, president of Latina-centered sorority Gamma Phi Omega. “It will also be great for others to think about joining some of these organizations because they can find a group to relate to. These groups serve as support systems.”

Greek Appreciation Week events are free and open to all Northeastern students. Here is the schedule of events:
