Northeastern Illinois University has selected the team member that will be responsible for the planning, development and operations of the University’s inaugural student residences. One of the nation’s leading student housing providers, American Campus Communities will work with Northeastern and lead a locally-based design team to develop and implement the plans.

“Northeastern cares greatly about our students and their success. The addition of an affordable, supportive living and learning environment close to academic programs and student services will greatly enhance our ability to recruit and retain students,” said Frank E. Ross, vice president for student affairs at Northeastern. “We are thrilled to have ACC as a key team member in the development of our student housing, which is scheduled to open in fall 2016.”

As the last Illinois public university to add a student-housing program, Northeastern plans to leverage its Chicago location and transformative educational experience in attracting students from across the region and around the globe.

Sharon Hahs, president, Northeastern Illinois University, said, “We are confident that this project will help us develop a residential life component that complements the excellent academic experience our talented faculty provide our students. Additionally, student housing will provide another opportunity to foster a greater sense of community for our students.”

American Campus Communities, based in Austin, Texas, was selected as a key team member through a competitive review process. Their project team is highly experienced within the State of Illinois and previously collaborated with Illinois State University on a student housing project.
