Arts Midwest Touring Fund has awarded Northeastern Illinois University a $3,600 grant for the October engagement with Philadanco Dance Company. The event is co-presented by the University’s long-running Jewel Box Series and the Ruth Page Dance Series.

In addition to Philadanco’s previously announced Jewel Box concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Auditorium, the grant will help fund an outreach performance for local K-12 schools earlier in the day.

Members of Philadanco also will give two master classes on separate dates—one in collaboration with the Ruth Page Dance Series and its program with the Pilsen Boys and Girls Club of Chicago and one for dance students at Evanston Township High School.

“We look forward to highlighting this amazing and diverse dance company on campus and using the outreach activities to connect with K-12 students in our community,” Office of Cultural Events Director Christie Miller said.

This is the second consecutive year Arts Midwest Touring Fund has awarded a grant to Northeastern.

Now in its 17th season, the Jewel Box Series is an eight-concert professional performing arts series presented by Northeastern’s Office of Cultural Events. Tickets for the Oct. 21 evening concert go on sale July 1 at neiu.edu/tickets or by calling (773) 442-4636. They are $17.50 and $25, or $5 for students from kindergarten through college.
