DANIEL L. GOODWIN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION MERIT TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

The Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education (GCOE) provides a limited number of scholarships for undergraduate education majors, either prospective or declared. Students (including transfer students) who show high promise for academic achievement will be considered. A cumulative GPA of 3.50 is required. (Applicant's transcripts will be accessed internally to verify the GPA. If the Northeastern transcripts currently do not show a GPA, the applicant might be asked to provide transfer transcripts).

Scholarships can be granted over the entire span of their undergraduate study at Northeastern Illinois University, not to exceed four years, or a total of eight semesters, including summer terms. A minimum number of credit hours is required in order to maintain the scholarship:

  • full-time enrollment:12 credit hours or 9 credit hours to students doing student teaching
  • half-time enrollment: 6-11 credit hours
  • summer terms: at least 3 credit hours

Students may reapply and be considered for continued support from this program on a semester-by-semester basis. The complete scholarship application must be submitted for each semester that student is seeking an award. The application must include:

  • an online submission
  • an uploaded letter of recommendation (from either Northeastern faculty, volunteer organizations, church associations, employment supervisors)
  • an uploaded one-page essay describing objectives, skills and accomplishments as they relate to the college major

The number of scholarships and level of financial award is based on available funding. Scholarship applications will be first reviewed by the applicant's department faculty/advisor or the department chair, who will make preliminary nominations. Afterwards, the GCOE Scholarship Committee will determine scholarship candidates from among the nominees, and will award amounts each semester. Awarded students will be notified by the Dean’s Office via email, within 3-4 weeks after the deadline. Applicants who were not nominated will be notified by their respective department chair.
