Noteworthy at Northeastern: Juneteenth

Northeastern Illinois University announced that beginning next year, Juneteenth will be officially observed as a University holiday. Members of NEIU also participated in the Say Their Names project, the University is part of the White House COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge, and NEIU for You is still accepting applicants. Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater’s Zafiro Flamenco Festival is this weekend, as is the Puerto Rican People’s Day Parade! Noteworthy at Northeastern: Making college more accessible

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced on March 19 that starting in August 2021, all Illinois public universities will become part of the Common Application (Common App). Additionally, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded a grant to the Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project, and President Gibson issued a statement about the shootings in Atlanta, Georgia. Noteworthy at Northeastern: Student research results

The Student Center for Science Engagement (SCSE) had to change the way it usually facilitates research because of the pandemic. Yet, even while research was done remotely, the SCSE was able to conduct 18 projects from eight departments and will host a virtual symposium later this month to showcase the results.

Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education announces program name changes, additions

Northeastern Illinois University’s Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education has changed several of its programs’ names and has made some additions beginning in the Fall 2020 term.
