Student Transition Program

The Summer Transition Program at Northeastern Illinois University helps you connect with fellow students, become familiar with campus, jumpstart your academic journey and build confidence before the fall semester begins. 

Program Dates, Time and Locations

  • Program Dates: Monday, July 6 through Friday, August 14, 2025
  • Program days and hours: In-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Locations: Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 North St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60625

Eligibility

First-time, first-year students admitted for the upcoming fall semester that meet the following criteria are eligible for the Summer Transition Program:

  • Completed placement test or submitted ACT scores
  • Placed into developmental Math, Reading or Writing
  • Agree to participate in Project Success or Proyecto Pa'Lante
  • Commit to the full six-week session (July 6 – August 14) and three-course sequence, including Student Transition Program (summer), First-Year Experience (fall) and cohort seminar course (spring). 
  • Pay a $200 program fee (includes tuition, workshops, tutoring, CTA passes, breakfast and lunch)

By participating in STP, you will:

  • Experience a college course and earn three credit hours that count towards graduation.
  • Build your confidence by participating in college life and academics before the fall semester begins.
  • Experience and learn about classroom expectations from college professors.
  • Strengthen confidence in your English and math abilities.
  • Retake the placement test, and possibly place at least one level higher in a math and/or English course for the fall semester.
  • Participate in interactive and fun activities to help you connect with other new students and prepare you for college life.
  • Save on tuition and fees if you place out of developmental courses.
  • Save time to graduation.
