Background

Matthew Hogan has been teaching at Northeastern Illinois University since 2019. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in bassoon performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he served as Associate Instructor of the bassoon studio. His bassoon teachers include David McGill, Kim Walker, and Arthur Weisberg. 

Matthew serves as second bassoon with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and is a performing member of the Chicago Philharmonic.  An active freelance bassoonist and contrabassoonist, he has worked with a wide range of arts organizations including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Ravinia Festival Orchestra, Joffrey Ballet, Chicago Opera Theater and Fulcrum Point New Music Project, among others.   

In addition to his work as a bassoonist, Matthew is Organist and Music Director at First Congregational Church of Evanston, Illinois.  He has previously held similar posts at churches in Elmhurst, Chicago and Indianapolis.
