Background

Kommanivanh is interested in creating new memories from past. The work itself is a reinterpretation of his memories documenting his history through painting. Raised with traditional Lao customs and active in hip-hop culture, the work investigates cultural hybridity and tensions of identity. The collection of paintings derives from personal and found photographs representing a pivotal time in the painter’s life.
