Background

Sara is a proud double alumna of Northeastern Illinois University, earning both her B.S. in Biology, with a minor in Environmental Studies, and her M.S. in Biology. As an undergraduate, she conducted research on diatoms and the epizoic communities of microscopic organisms living on the shells of captive snapping turtles. She later completed her master's thesis on the effects of human activities on painted turtles. The research opportunities and mentorship Sara experienced at NEIU played a significant role in her development as a scientist. She is passionate about helping students take advantage of the many resources and opportunities available in the Biology Department so they can grow as biologists, develop their scientific skills, and deepen their understanding of the natural world.
