The Summer Bridge programs at Northeastern Illinois University provide opportunities for you to get a jumpstart on your academic career, meet other students, become more familiar with NEIU and build your confidence before you begin the fall semester.

Priority selection for each program is for first time first-year students admitted for Fall 2020. However, spots may be available for continuing and transfer students. Visit the specific program pages for additional eligibility requirements, program details and application information.

Please note: Applications for Summer Bridge programs will be available January 2020.

Summer Bridge consists of four programs:

EMERGE

Build a stronger math and/or English foundation with EMERGE.

English Session

  • Program Dates: Monday to Thursday, June 29 to July 16, 2020
  • Program Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Location: Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave., Chicago, IL 

Math Session

  • Program Dates: Monday to Thursday, July 20 to August 6, 2020
  • Program Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Location: Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave., Chicago, IL 

Google Computer Science Summer Institute-Extension (CSSI-Extension)

Prepare for Computer Science studies with Google CSSI-Extension.

  • Program Dates: Monday to Friday, July 20 to August 7, 2020
  • Program Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Location: Northeastern Illinois University, El Centro, 3390 N. Avondale Ave., Chicago, IL

Summer Transition Program (STP) 

Experience college life and a free college course with STP.

  • Program Dates: Monday to Friday, June 29 to August 7, 2020
  • Program Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Locations:

    • El Centro, 3390 N. Avondale Ave., Chicago, IL

Urban Health and Wellness Summer Immersion Program (UHW-SIP)

Explore urban health and wellness careers through activities and a college credit course.

  • Program Dates: Monday to Friday, June 29 to August 7, 2020
  • Program Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. •
  • Location: Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, 700 E. Oakwood Blvd., Chicago, IL

To get a head start on college life and academics!

  • Build your confidence by participating in various college life and academic activities before the fall semester begins.
  • Experience a free college course with the Student Transition Program or the Urban Health and Wellness Summer Immersion Program.
  • Prepare for computer science studies with Google CSSI-Extension at El Centro.
  • Explore urban health and wellness careers at the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies.
  • Build a stronger math and/or English foundation with EMERGE.

To connect and meet new people and familiarize yourself with the campus.

  • Meet other new students and make friends before the fall semester begins.
  • Get to know faculty, staff and peer leaders who will help you succeed at Northeastern.
  • Learn about campus resources and how to get around before your first day of classes.

To gain access to this free programming designed to enhance your education.

  • You read that right. Participating in Summer Bridge programs is free.
  • Lunch is provided every day.
  • Workshop and course materials are also provided.
  • Limited number of spaces available for Summer Bridge students to live in the Nest, our on-campus housing. Students must participate in and complete six-week programs to be eligible for summer housing at the Nest. (Please note: Students who are not living on campus are required to provide their own transportation and/or parking expenses.)
