Professor Charles (Chuck) Kane was NEIU's first althetic director and golf coach. His colleagues remember him as a warm and wonderful man who took great pride in his teaching. Since 1972, the Charles G. Kane Memorial Golf Outing has been raising scholarship funds for Northeastern Illinois University students. The outing began as a way for members of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (H.P.E.R.A.) to help and honor their colleague and mentor Charles G. Kane.
The net profits from this outing have endowed two scholarship funds:
The Charles G. Kane Memorial Scholarship and
The NEIU Chuck Kane Scholarship
Additional annual scholarships are awarded in each of the University's colleges (Arts & Sciences, Business & Management and Education).
More than 70 students have received scholarships from these funds.
Today, the outing is a joint venture between the NEIU Foundation and the Department of H.P.E.R.A.
