Sherman P. Appel Scholarship
Preference is given to first generation college students. In even years: an entering freshman demonstrating academic excellence, enrolled full-time and demonstrates financial need. In odd years: an sophomore or junior accepted and enrolled in the University Honors Program, demonstrating academic excellence and enrolled full-time.

Robin Archia Prize for Service
Awarded to a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in political science that follows the model of Robin Archia’s service as shown by their mentoring of other students; their engagement in community action and leadership; their involvement with a political science student organization or other student organization leadership; or their devotion to service to the department of Political Science, Northeastern Illinois University and/or the broader community. Harold E. Berlinger Music Scholarship*

Berlinger Humanities Award

Brommel-Brady-Portokalis Scholarship*
Eligible to a student who has completed all the elements of the Honors Program; whose graduation date will be during the current academic year; who is accepted to and/or enrolled in any graduate school program; who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, commitment to service and/or leadership within the Honors Program and attendance or presentations at conferences.

Brommel-Chan-Laird Scholarship For Ensemble Español*
Full-time or part-time sophomore, junior or senior in Ensemble Español. Major or minor in communication, media and theatre. Minimum GPA 2.5.

Brommel-Cozad-Elliott Scholarship*
Eligible to a full-time or part-time top student participating in the Honors Program who has the potential to pursue graduate level coursework in one of the following areas: Psychology; Communications; Counseling; Social Work; Mental Health. Applicants must write an essay (no more than three pages) describing the area of coursework they plan to pursue after graduation and why they have chosen it. Juniors must have completed a minimum of 90 hours by the end of the spring semester when the award is given. Seniors must have two or more semesters remaining prior to graduation to be eligible.

Brommel-Denson-Everson-Snell Scholarship in Communication*
Full-time or part-time junior or senior in communication, media and theatre. Completed three courses in degree. Minimum GPA 3.4.

Brommel-Levy-Staniec Scholarship in Communication, Media and Theatre*
Full-time or part-time sophomore, junior or senior in Communication, Media and Theatre. Preference shall be given to applicants who have a declared minor in Psychology or who are participating in the Honors Program. Minimum GPA 3.2.

Brommel-Lindberg Scholarship in History*
Part-time or full-time junior or senior in History. Must demonstrate potential to go on at the graduate level. Students are nominated by faculty. Additional conditions apply.

Brommel-Manganiello-Wohl Scholarship in Honors Program*
Two annual scholarships, one in the fall and one in the spring semester, to two full-time or part-time top students enrolled in the Honors Program who have the potential to pursue graduate level coursework. Applicant must be a junior or senior. Applicant shall submit an Honor’s Program thesis proposal to the Honors Faculty Advisor committee. Applicants shall only be considered for this award during the semester in which the thesis proposal is submitted.

Brommel-McGee Award for Communication, Media and Theatre*
Senior in Communication, Media and Theatre. Must demonstrate potential for graduate work. Nominated by Communication, Media and Theatre faculty member. Minimum GPA 3.25. Additional conditions apply.

Brommel-Miller Teaching As Transformation Scholarship*
Undergraduate students in the Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education with a declared major that leads to teaching certification and evidence of steady academic progress toward a degree completion. Preference given to students with a declared double major (secondary education) or minor (elementary education) in the humanities. Minimum GPA of 3.25. Additional requirements.

Professor Bonnie Busse Memorial Merit Scholarship
Students who express interest in teaching grades kindergarten-12, who show interest in teaching foreign languages, linguistics, physical sciences or mathematics. Incoming freshmen should be in top five percent of class or an ACT score of 30 or higher. Undergraduates minimum GPA 3.5 and a minimum of 12 earned credit hours.

Cannon-Herskovic Israel Research Scholarship
An undergraduate student enrolled in the Honors program who is currently working on his/hers honors thesis; or to a graduate student who is currently working on his/her master's thesis.

Shirley Castelnuovo Memorial Scholarship
Junior, senior or graduate student in political science. Preference to student studying political theory or a veteran of the United States Armed Forces or to a student with previous internship or work experience. Minimum GPA 3.3. Additional Conditions apply.

Ruth Chakos Memorial Award*
Sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student in Music (voice). Must demonstrate performance ability through audition in the music department. Additional conditions apply (age restrictions).

Chicago Teacher's College Association Endowment
High school seniors, who are U.S. citizens and residents of the state of Illinois who wish to pursue a career in education. Applicants must provide an official high school transcript, a letter of recommendation from their high school principal giving evidence of leadership and scholarship. Dr. Saba and Dr. Condon Psychology Student Travel Award
Part-time undergraduate or recent alumni in Psychology. Students and/or recent alumni who have presented, or are accepted to present their work at a national or international conference. If the recipient is a recent alumnus, he or she must have completed the research work while enrolled at Northeastern, and typically shall present their work at the conference within a one-year timeframe of graduation.

Established in memory of Professor Charles “Chuck” Kane and augmented annually through charitable income from the Chuck Kane Scholarship Golf Event, produced annually since 1973. The Chuck Kane Scholarships are awarded to recipients who are outstanding full-time or part-time, graduate or undergraduate students at Northeastern Illinois University. The Max Graves Moody Spirit of Innovation Scholarship
Open to all students in good standing either in high school or at Northeastern. Applicants will provide a brief proposal explaining what they wish to use the funds for and how that reflects a spirit of innovation, imagination, risk-taking or idea generation. Upon completion of their use of funds, submit a reflection paper on their experience and have their proposal and reflection posted or shared for future applicants.

Smith Barney Mercantile Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship for one undergraduate and one graduate student education. Preference to students who participate in ENLACE, Gear-Up, Project Success or Proyecto Pa’Lante. Undergraduate applicants must be a Chicago public school graduate who attended all four years of high school in the system, of U.S. citizenship, minimum GPA 2.5. Written essay answering how high school influenced his/her decision to be a teacher, why teaching is important and what are his/her career goals. Graduate student must be employed full-time as a teacher in the Chicago public school system, enrolled in a graduate program, show a history of working with underserved youth, and minimum GPA 3.0. Written essay describing experiences working with underserved youth in the Chicago public system how experiences impacted future career goals and why the master’s program selected will enhance teaching abilities.

Named in tribute to Dr. Ronald Williams, the fourth President of Northeastern Illinois University, available to students of African American descent. Applicants must submit an essay describing why he/she has chosen the field of special education and the applicant’s experiences with individuals who have special needs.
