Academic Support Center

ASC tutors are undergraduate and graduate NEIU students trained to support student learning in the following areas:

• Content Tutoring
• Mathematics Tutoring
• WIP Peer Tutoring
• Writing Tutoring
• Learning Strategies Support
• NEIU Placement Test Preparation
• GCOE Content Test Preparation

ASC tutors and staff work to promote active learning strategies, encourage student engagement, and provide content and skill support. Academic support is provided to students who are seeking assistance with understanding course concepts and preparing assignments, along with developing an improved learning system for college which includes motivation, academic engagement, brain-based habits for college learning, and learning strategies for note taking, textbook reading, and test taking.

ASC tutors are graduate and undergraduate students who are recommended by faculty in their programs. They are hired through a rigorous application process and on the basis of their own academic achievement and interpersonal and communication skills. Tutors participate in weekly training to learn how to support student learning. 

Appointments are strongly encouraged! All tutor appointment times are available to students in person in the Ronald Williams Library on the main campus or online via Google Meet. Tutor availability will differ depending on the type of tutoring offered.

The Academic Support Center (ASC) shares the University's mission to provide an exceptional environment for learning to its diverse community of learners. ASC provides inclusive, personalized academic support through one-on-one tutoring, group sessions, and collaborative learning experiences conducted by peer tutors. 

VISION

The Academic Support Center (ASC) will be a meaningful and accessible resource for students seeking learning support. Our student staff will collaborate with their fellow Golden Eagles in any stage of the learning process to support their pursuit of academic success.

Power Hours

The Academic Support Center (ASC) invites all NEIU students to join us for Power Hours.

Power Hours help students with their productivity and time management by providing a time and place to be focused and motivated. Overcome task paralysis and use the time to focus on homework, organize your notes, review for your next class or spend time on that essay assignment.

Power Hours are held in person in ASC on the fourth floor of the Ronald Williams Library. An ASC tutor will be present to welcome students and provide general help. Students are invited to make appointments for Power Hours.

Tuesdays: 6:00 p.m.
Wednesdays: 10:30 a.m.
Thursdays: 3:00 p.m.
Fridays: 10:00 a.m.

• Monday - Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
• Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
• Saturday: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

ASC will be closed

• Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7 for Labor Day
• Tuesday, November 3 for Election Day
• Thursday, November 26 through Sunday, November 29 for Thanksgiving
