Northeastern Illinois University, located in Chicago, Illinois, invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration.

Position Responsibilities:

The Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) reports to NEIU President Gloria J. Gibson and is responsible for providing leadership, management and coordination of administrative areas that support the daily operation of the University. The VPFA must collaboratively develop the vision for these areas to strategically prepare the University for the future. The VPFA also serves on the President’s Cabinet and is involved in University-wide strategic and operational planning.

Finance and Administration is comprised of six main areas: the Office of University Budgets, Business Services (Human Resources, Controller, Bursar), Facilities Management, University Police, University Technology Services, and Procurement and Auxiliary Services (Purchasing, Risk Management, Parking, Property Control, Mail/Receiving). The VPFA oversees the operations and planning for these six areas. The VPFA provides leadership in the development and monitoring of the University budget, including revenue forecasting, expenditure planning and coordinating budgetary data requests with various state agencies; facilities planning, construction and maintenance; investment and debt strategies; internal and external financial and compliance audits; emergency planning and coordination; and developing, implementing and maintaining university policies and procedures, including fiscal and internal controls, for the various areas in Finance and Administration. The VPFA also prepares reports for the Board of Trustees, seeks required Board approval for certain expenditures, and serves as the Board of Trustee treasurer.

The VPFA must have a master’s degree and significant experience in a finance related area (e.g., accounting, finance, business administration, public administration). Applicants must have at least five years of successful experience managing similar responsibilities in a large, complex organization and a clear and demonstrated record of outstanding leadership, strategic creativity, organizational efficiency, financial acumen, and ethical financial management. Demonstrated track record of managerial success with investment opportunities as well as engagement with entrepreneurial enterprises. Experience in a higher education institution is strongly desired but not required. The position requires the ability to communicate in writing and orally and work effectively with diverse student, faculty and staff populations and various external constituencies.
