Discipline Tutors are undergraduate or graduate students who are recommended by a department to serve as a tutor in their discipline/major. Tutors should demonstrate a strong understanding of the material in their discipline and be able to engage students in small group and one-on-one discussions.

Requirements of the Position
- Must be recommended by a faculty member (email or letter)
- Must have a strong understanding of the material in their discipline
- Be able to engage students in small group and one-on-one discussions
- Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Tutor General Education courses in the Learning Success Center
- Attend LSC tutor trainings and orientation
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Learning Success Center Director or Assistant Director

- Ability to convey content to students clearly
- Ability to adapt to varying student needs

- Flexible, helpful, patient
- Professional in being on-time, dressing appropriately, and keeping appointments
Duration of Appointment
- The contract for the assistantship will be for one academic year, but eligibility is reviewed for each semester.
Application Process
How to Qualify
Undergraduate student applicants must meet NEIU Office of Student Employment requirements for student aides:
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
- Must be able to complete Form I-9 before the beginning of the semester
- Must meet all other requirements stipulated by The Office of Student Employment, such as attending Student Employment Orientation and providing tax forms and NEIU schedule and account information
Graduate student applicants* must meet the College of Graduate Studies and Research requirements for graduate assistants:
- Must be students admitted to a degree-seeking graduate program (Graduate Students-At-Large are not eligible)
- Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average
- Must satisfy enrollment requirements (3-12 hours per semester)
