Pool Updates and Information
In the summer of 2021, NEIU determined that the swimming pool had leaked thousands of gallons of water for several years. It was also determined that the water filtration system needed to be appropriately cleaned and sanitized. For these reasons the pool was closed. A contractor was hired in November of 2021 to complete inspections and generate reports. The contractor completed its report at the end of December 2022, and it includes recommendations for repairs that would extend the life of the pool by 10-15 years. Facilities Management has engaged architects to assist with creating the design and repair work listed in the contractor’s report.
Once NEIU decides on a preferred path forward, the pool repair drawings will be prepared and sent out to bid. The selected contractor(s) will then start the pool repair process. The length of this phase is currently unknown and will depend on the scope of work. NEIU has made this pool project a top priority. As mentioned above, and for health and safety reasons, we want to take all essential steps to ensure the pool is safe and clean for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to enjoy.
