In this role you will:

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk position performs essential duties relating to the flow of mail, parcels, and freight to and from the University. The Shipping & Receiving Clerk will interact on a daily basis with United Parcel Service, Federal Express, and all other shipping companies and delivery vendors used by the University. This position will function as a backup driver for Mail Services and interact on a semi-regular basis with the United States Postal Service. This position will be specifically responsible for the unassigned regular pickup and delivery of freight and parcels throughout the University.

To be successful in this role, qualified applicants will have:



Departmental Preferences: 

  • Must have a High School Diploma or a GED
  • Requires a current and valid Illinois Driver’s License
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 75 LBS 
  • Must be able to safely and proficiently operate electric pallet, jacks, receiving dock doors, and mechanical bundlers 
  • Must be able to operate the station’s receiving software system
  • Excellent Communication skills (Oral & Written) 
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent attention to details skills 
  • Technical skills for data entry


  1. Records receipts of university property, equipment, and materials.
  2. Correlates receipts with university purchase order numbers, weigh bills, and shipping tickets.
  3. Visually inspects material received for damage; prepares damage claims when required.
  4. Responsible for delivery of above materials to proper departments.
  5. Maintains petty cash fund for payment of collect shipments.
  6. Prepares vouchers charging proper department for reimbursement.
  7. Prepares weigh bills for outgoing shipments and return of materials.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

(This position requires a background check.)




Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Hours may vary depending on departmental needs)
