Introduction

The School Health Graduate Certificate is designed to meet the needs of professionals who work in a school setting or with school-related partners. In addition to developing foundational knowledge in health content areas, students are engaged in learning best practices in health education curriculum development, selection and design of assessments, skills-based teaching strategies, school health program planning and evaluation, and school health advocacy. Throughout the program, ongoing attention is given to equity and justice in health education and to developing health-literate individuals.

Career Options

The School Health Graduate Certificate prepares certified teachers to teach health education and to serve in school health leadership roles. It also supports professionals working or seeking to work with schools or school-aged children towards achieving optimal health. These professionals might include nurses, counselors, social workers, coaches, and academic support staff and administrators, as well as professionals employed by park districts, social service agencies, public and private health care organizations, and government institutions. 

In addition to serving as a school health education teacher, additional job titles might include:
