In this role you will

Serve as primary assistant to administrators in the College of Business and Technology's (CBT) Dean's Office. Primarily responsible for initiating and coordinating the office support functions required for the effective implementation of administrative policies of the unit, and for efficient operations of the office. Extensive knowledge of College and University programs, policies and procedures is required. The following personal attributes are needed to undertake job: ability to select and develop appropriate criteria methods and procedures to be utilized in order to solve problems, skill in oral and written communication; ability to utilize various software packages; and supervisory and administrative ability is required. 

To be successful in this role, qualified applicants will have



  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Any one or any combination of the following, totaling 2 years – 4 years of experience in the categories below:
    • work experience performing office/clerical activities, including use of computer systems
    • college or university course work in any curriculum
      • twelve (12) semester hours = six (6) months
      • twenty-four (24) semester hours = twelve (12) months
      • thirty-six (36) semester hours = eighteen (18) months
      • forty-eight (48) semester hours = twenty-four (24) months


  • Daily operations: Directs and coordinates the support and clerical functions of the office to facilitate cyclical workflow, including: space management; calendar management; college communications, including preparation of letters, memos, emails, and notes of a confidential and/or technical nature; supply management; property control management; co-supervision and training of subordinate employees, including extra help; and selection, training, and evaluation of student employees. Acts as backup for front desk staff duties. 
  • Events and activities, and related reporting: Provide high-level support for College events, meetings, and activities; coordinates event planning logistics and manages resources; collaborates with other university departments for co-sponsored events, and collaborates with non-NEIU external partners for delivery of co-sponsored activities and events. Also, coordinates activities such as disbursing Dean's List information, and manages research projects on College efforts and activities as they relate to our strategic plan. Serves as a resource to support student led activities. 
  • Webpage, social media, and communications: Leads in the maintenance of College microsite on the University website, with highest approval permissions at College level. Manages social media presence on all external platforms; manages communications, event promotions, and event coverage/recaps; manages reporting for visitor activity on internal and external platforms. Also manages internal College listservs, for CBT employees and students. Serves as administrator for CBT-managed InLighten monitors. 
  • Supports administrative workflow: Assists with preparation and review of financial, contractual, and administrative paperwork. Serves as financial manager alternate for department. 
  • Accreditation Database Maintenance: Maintain the information in the web-based database used by the College for external accreditation purposes; onboard and train faculty for individual account use; collect and maintain departmental information; and generate reports. Coordinate department wide trainings and related projects. 
  • Serves as College Resource: Serve as liaison between office and subordinate departments in College, and for external parties; answer inquiries and resolve problems that require the interpretation, explanation, and justification of administrative and programmatic policies and procedures. Invites and introduces prospective external supporters to college leadership. Represents the department at non-College meetings and conferences. Makes independent decisions, both fiscal and logistic, that better aid the success of college initiatives to meet accreditation requirements and support student success. 
  • Performs other duties/special projects as assigned. 




Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Hours may vary depending on departmental needs)
