Northeastern Illinois University, located in Chicago, Illinois, invites applications for the position of Mental Health Case Manager, STEM in the Student Counseling Services Department.         

In this role you will

Under the direction of the Director of Student Counseling Services, the Mental Health Case Manager assists with coordinating case management and referral services for STEM students within the Student Center for Science Engagement at NEIU. The Mental Health Case Manager provides counseling services to STEM/SCSE students (initial appointments, crisis intervention and response, individual therapy) provides supervision and training to SCSE Peer Wellness Coaches; and works with other SCSE staff to coordinate coaching and advising for STEM students. The Mental Health Case Manager also communicates with students' families to assist with referrals, as needed. This position is grant-funded and embedded part time within the Student Center for Science Engagement. 

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field. Licensed or license-eligible as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois, to be fully licensed within 2 year; experience providing counseling and case management in a diverse, multicultural setting; ability to work autonomously.  

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years’ post-licensure, Bilingual (Spanish/English), Experience supervising others, -understanding student experiences as a STEM major, previous experience with advising/coaching science-related professions, skills in initiating professional liaison relationships with external healthcare providers.

  • Providing clinical services to NEIU students (initial assessment; crisis intervention & therapy) 
  • Providing case management for students requiring linkage with off-campus referrals
  • Assisting students in engaging with referrals
  • Providing supervision and training for paraprofessionals (Peer Wellness Coaches)
  • Providing outreach and consultation to the NEIU STEM/SCSE community on mental health related topics  
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
