Benefits

For any NEIU student who meets the eligibility requirements listed below, starting Fall 2022 we are making your college experience more affordable after all federal, state, institutional, internal/external scholarships and grants have been applied. See below for more details.

First-time, Full-time Freshmen

Our NEIU For You scholarship will cover four consecutive years of tuition for eligible first-time, full-time freshmen.

Transfer Students

Our NEIU For You scholarship covers the cost of one three-credit hour class for eligible first-time, full-time transfer students.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for NEIU For You, a prospective freshman or transfer student must:

  • Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Undocumented students may complete the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid instead of FAFSA
  • Have an annual adjusted gross income of $60,000 or less and family assets of $50,000 or less
  • Be admitted to Northeastern as an incoming first-time, full-time freshman or transfer student enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester

Additional eligibility requirements for freshmen:

  • Be an Illinois resident who attended an Illinois high school
  • Have a minimum high school GPA of 2.0
    • NEIU will waive the minimum 2.5 GPA admission requirement for eligible students.

Additional eligibility requirements for transfer students:

  • Be an Illinois resident
  • Have a minimum previous college(s) attended GPA of 2.0
    • NEIU will waive the minimum 2.5 GPA admission requirement for eligible students.

 As described more fully in the NEIU application materials, the University is very pleased to share key terms and conditions for the NEIU For You Scholarship Initiative approved by the Board of Trustees. The Scholarship Initiative will only be awarded to individuals who meet the requirements of the program. To qualify, you must have an annual adjusted gross family income of $60,000 or less and family assets of $50,000 or less. For freshmen, you must be an Illinois resident who attended an Illinois high school and have a minimum high school GPA of 2.0 to receive this scholarship. For transfer students, you must be an Illinois resident and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to receive this scholarship. NEIU will waive the minimum 2.5 GPA admission requirement for eligible students. International students and part-time students are not entitled to this Scholarship Initiative program. Students must register for full-time (at least 12 credits) to qualify for consideration for the Scholarship Initiative. The program is non-refundable, e.g., students who do not complete a semester will not be provided any cash or credit benefit. Northeastern Illinois University reserves the right to terminate the Scholarship Initiative when all allotted funds are exhausted, or for any other reason as solely determined by the University.
