La Copa Soccer Tournament

Location: NEIU Physical Education Complex
Time: 9 a.m.-noon

For the past two years we have celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a soccer tournament, "La Copa." We are seeking students, faculty, staff and alumni at all experience levels and of all genders to play once again this year. The fields will be outdoors; teams will be 6 vs. 6.  SIGN UP TO PLAY

The format of the event will be the same as previous years. The fields will be outdoors and shortened with smaller goals. Teams will be 6 vs. 6, which includes the keeper. We will assign players to teams to evenly distribute age, gender, and skill level. The goal for the tournament is to HAVE FUN! There will be a total of 5 teams. Team names represent Latino programs on campus: El Centro, Proyecto Pa'lante, ENLACE, The Latino Resource Center, and Latino and Latin American Studies (Being on one of the teams DOES NOT mean you have to be affiliated with the program, they are simply the names we chose to identify the teams). Team members will each get a t-shirt representing their team. Each team will play each other once; each team will play a total of 4 times. The games will last 20 minutes, divided into two 10‐minute halves. There will be a five‐minute half-time and a five‐minute transition between games. We will provide water coolers with water and cups. Teams will earn 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. No overtime. The top two point‐earning teams will play a final match for the championship. The winner of the final will get bragging rights until next year and a trophy will be placed in a display case on campus recognizing the team. Please invite people you know to participate! Contact Maria Genao-Homs at m-genao-homs@neiu.edu  for more information.
