The English and Math Enrichment, Readiness, and Growth Experience (EMERGE) program offers math and English enrichment classes using positive academic identity development and growth mindset to strengthen students’ foundation and confidence in their English and math abilities.
Summer Bridge Program Application

English Session
- Welcome Program: Friday, July 1, 2022
- Program Dates: Monday to Thursday, July 5 to July 21, 2022
- Program Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

EMERGE English Writing Workshops
Students who participate in EMERGE English will learn how to:
- Develop and discuss original ideas
- Apply the writing process (i.e., brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, editing)
- Write coherent paragraphs with topic sentences or theses, supporting details, and transition words
- Write coherent essays with introductions, body paragraphs, conclusions, and transition sentences
- Recognize and use appropriate writing mechanics, including punctuation, capitalization, and formatting
- Use writing tools such as thesauruses and Google Docs effectively
- Paraphrase and summarize the work of others
- EMERGE English students may choose one of multiple workshop topics
Eligibility for EMERGE ENglish
Priority selection is for first time first-year students admitted for the upcoming Fall semester. However, spots may be available for continuing and transfer students.
Math Session

- Program Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The math workshops are modeled after the successful Peer Led Team Learning and Emerging Scholars Program models, which are nationally recognized for helping students succeed in mathematics. There, you will have personalized action plans to help you succeed in math.
Eligibility for EMERGE Math
Priority selection is for first time first-year students admitted for Fall 2022. However, spots may be available for continuing and transfer students. Students are eligible if they meet the following requirements:
- To participate in EMERGE math, you must place into MATH 090, 091, 092 or 111A.
Program Benefits
By completing the EMERGE program, you will:
- Strengthen your confidence in your English and math abilities.
- Be able to retake the placement test, and possibly place at least one level higher in a math or English course for the fall semester.
- Build a strong English and math foundation, which will help you succeed in your future classes.
- Save up to $4,000 on tuition and fees if you place out of developmental courses.
- Save time to graduation.
