Do I have to take the placement tests?

Many students may have evidence of college readiness that can exempt them from part or all of the placement process. Please read our placement methods page to learn more.

Students may submit any or all of the following if they are less than 5 years old*:

  • A cumulative, weighted GPA of 3.25 or higher for recent graduates of U.S. high schools waives the English test.
  • Transfer credit from other institutions.
  • Recent, high ACCUPLACER placement test scores from other institutions.

The Testing Center also accepts other measures that grant exemptions to the placement test. Students who qualify to waive the Math placement tests can still take the tests to try to place into a higher class.

*Official transcripts/scores must be submitted to NEIU Admissions (admissions@neiu.edu).

If you aren't sure if you qualify to waive testing, contact Testing Services at testingservices@neiu.edu or email your academic advisor.
