Our Student Success Programs will provide you with personalized attention, academic support and opportunities to develop your skills and help you succeed in college and beyond.

Below are descriptions of our Student Success Programs. Please read the description of each program to help you make a more informed choice regarding which program you would like to select. Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies - 700 East Oakwood Boulevard

The Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS) is located in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood. CCICS Allstars is a student success program available to students who demonstrate academic potential but do not meet the general admission requirements.


Northeastern Illinois University El Centro – 3390 North Avondale Avenue

Northeastern Illinois University El Centro is located in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood. Founded in the 1960s, it is a focal point for the Latino community and provides educational opportunities within a culturally comfortable and easily accessible setting. The El Centro Scholars Program is dedicated to helping students reach their academic, personal and professional goals. The program offers a wealth of services to support the student’s academic growth. This is done by way of a holistic academic support program that provides tutoring, academic workshops and mentoring opportunities.


Main Campus – 5500 North St. Louis Avenue

Established in 1968 as an educational access and equity program, a main focus was to recruit and retain African American students. Today, Project Success remains dedicated to access and equity by serving students of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, and backgrounds making it one of the most diverse programs on campus. Project Success also continues its tradition of creating innovative student support services that help retain students by providing support services that help students build a strong academic and social foundation while they are transitioning into the colligate environment.

Proyecto Pa’Lante is an academic support program that has historically, and continues, to serve Latino college students. Students in Proyecto Pa'Lante are provided with personal and academic support programs and services designed to enhance learning and development, as well as ease the academic and social transition to Northeastern.

The Wentworth Scholars Program will assist students with a successful academic and social transition to the University by providing programs and services that create a sense of belonging, encourage student engagement and the development of cognitive and non-cognitive skills, support the identification of a clear academic and career path, and enhance student success.

The program is named after Daniel D. Wentworth, the first principal of the Cook County Normal School that was founded in 1867 and later became Northeastern Illinois University.
