Northeastern offers "conditional admission" to those international applicants who applied to the graduate programs, who have meet all admission criteria, and have presented a low English language proficiency exam.

Conditional admission is contingent on students being enrolled in Northeastern Intensive English Program SAELL and achieve the score needed to be in the graduate programs. NOTE: Students applying for M.A./M.S. programs must still be approved by the individual department for conditional admission and may have to meet additional requirements imposed by the department.

Students will need to complete the graduate admissions application and submit all required documents in order for their application to be considered. If the student is granted conditional admission status and has submitted the financial requirements for the I-20 processing, then Office of International Programs will issue a "Language Training I-20" for one (1) year.

SAELL students in conditional admission status must accept the offer to study at the School for the Advancement of English Language and Learning until they have achieved the required TOEFL score on Institutional TOEFL (PBT) given at the end of each term or have had an official TOEFL iBT or IETLS equivalent scores sent from ETS or IELTS.
