SAELL Academic Program: Levels & Selection

Program Levels

Students are placed into their level of study based primarily on their most recent TOEFL test score. Some course assignments may vary based upon individual skill area scores. The TOEFL test is given to all new students during their first orientation week. The TOEFL PBT, TOEFL IBT and IELTS equivalents are listed below.

Program Selection

SAELL offers three programs to best meet the needs of our students.

Intensive English Program ("full-time" option)

18-24 hours per week Monday-Thursday

Conditionally admitted NEIU students

Newly admitted F1 students (from outside the USA)

F1 transfer students (from inside the USA)

Intensive English Program (course-by-course option)

3-15 hours per week Monday-Thursday

 

F2 students, Permanent Residents and others
Customized English Programs Determined by the needs of the organization Community organizations, businesses, hospitals, schools, and others that have specific English learning needs for their members and employees

SAELL students complete the Intensive English Program when they obtain one of the following scores or surpass a higher minimum admission score required by their chosen program:
