The School for Advancement of English Language and Learning (SAELL)
SAELL is Northeastern Illinois University’s Intensive English Program operated under the auspices of International Programs and the Department of Teaching English as a Second / Foreign Language. SAELL is the only Intensive English Program in the United States based on the Common European Framework Reference for Languages (CEFR). SAELL class sizes are small with up to 15 students in each class. Teachers are highly-experienced instructors with Master's degrees, and most have taught extensively in other countries, so they are very familiar with other cultures. SAELL offers three levels of intensive English for undergraduate students, and four levels of intensive English for graduate students. Students study in one level during a 13-week term in fall, spring, and/or summer. Undergraduate SAELL students complete the intensive English program when they obtain one of the following test scores: TOEFL - 61 IBT; 500 PBT / ITP; 173 CBT; or IELTS 6.0. Graduate SAELL students complete the intensive English program when they obtain the department required test score. In most cases the requirement is: TOEFL - 79-80 BT; 550 PBT / ITP; 213 CBT; or IELTS 6.5
SAELL offers three types of enrollment: Full-time intensive program; Part-time evening program; Part-time weekend program in the summer only.
