Search Classes

The Office of Community and Professional Education (CAPE) offers non-credit classes and workshops to members of the community. Take a class for career development, to nurture your artistic side or learn a new skill. Offerings also include music and dance programs for children to adults and a campus recreation program that offers swimming lessons, water safety courses and more. CAPE welcomes your feedback. If there is something you would like to see offered as a non-credit class on our campus please contact us at Offerings are primarily held at the Main Campus in North Park, and at El Centro in Avondale.

Introduction to Bees and Beekeeping

Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, 8 a.m. to noon

The Midwest Master Beekeeper Program is coming to NEIU! Introduction to Bees and Beekeeping will focus on the the history of beekeeping, honeybee biology, plant and pollinator relationship, and essential equipment and requirements. The Midwest Master Beekeeper certification program consists of six levels: Beginner Beekeeper, Apprentice Beekeeper, Journeyman Beekeeper, Junior Master Beekeeper, Master Trainer, and Master Beekeeper. By the end of this first course, individuals will be able to help experienced beekeepers in the management of hives.

The Introduction to Bees and Beekeeping class is for any individual interested in learning beekeeping. This class will be taught by NEIU alumna Dr. Moneen Jones. Dr. Jones received her M.A. and M.S. from NEIU in 2006. She also has developed a Midwest Master Beekeeper curriculum, and the brochure for her other pollinator program, the Missouri Pollinator Conservancy Program, has been nominated for a literary award. The course costs $95 which includes a book. Register here.
