Three members of Northeastern Illinois University’s library staff worked together to produce a new digital collection of publications that came out of the Carruthers Center in the 1960s and ’70s. Find out how to view the collection, which students won the Mach Concerto competition and which students and alumni appeared in the Chicago Tribune’s high-profile project about DACA recipients. As an unprecedented migration crisis unfolds in the Mediterranean Sea, commercial vessels often witness boats filled with refugees crossing major shipping lanes. These boats are typically unsafe and overloaded, and commercial vessels are often first responders when the refugees need help. Commercial shipmasters and crews are legally obligated to rescue the refugees and take them to a place of safety, but these rescues have also regularly led to a sticky legal question: Who pays for the commercial costs of rescue-related shipping delays?

Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein to speak at Northeastern Illinois University

Journalism icons and authors Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein will participate in a conversation about current events as Northeastern Illinois University presents the third installment of the Daniel L. Goodwin Distinguished Lecture Series on Feb. 8. It will be the first time they have appeared together since the November 2016 election. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on the Main Campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Chicago.

ENLACE student project raises almost $10,000 for undocumented student resources

Each year, Associate Professor of Literacy, Leadership and Development Gabriel Cortez challenges his Human Relations and Leadership class to create a group activity that results in learning and real-world impact. Each year, his class delivers over a tight, six-week time span with outstanding final projects such as creating a guide to Hispanic-Serving Institutions or organizing an event to empower undergraduate student success.
