The Department of Health Sciences and Physical Education, (HSPE) offers NCATE accredited undergraduate degree programs to meet the needs of students who desire teaching careers in Physical Education and/or Health, careers in Community Health, or who want to further their careers by acquiring graduate level training in Exercise Science.

HSPE offers two bachelor's degrees, two minors and one master's degree to prepare students in careers in health, exercise and teaching.



EXSC 215 – Resistance & Cardiovascular Training for Health & Wellness 

This course is designed to develop advanced content knowledge of resistance and cardiovascular training principles for performance and sport specific training. It will also prepare students for the initial preparation for national certification exams for resistance and cardiovascular training. (For full preparation for national exams, students are encouraged to take EXSC 315 Design of Exercise Programs.) 
No prerequisites required.

SPRING 2019:

EXSC 315 – Design of Exercise Programs (Personal Training) 

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive approach to personal training and a more complete preparation of content knowledge of training principles and how they relate to a variety of populations, from athletes to older adults, and other clients with special needs. With successful completion of EXSC 215 and this course, a student should be prepared to take a national certification exam, such as Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) or Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Prerequisite: EXSC 215
